Michael Whitten

Waterfront and Fleet Manager

Michael was first introduced to aquaculture in Alaskan sockeye salmon hatcheries in the mid-nineties.  However, as John Lennon said, life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans, and he wound up operating a 50’ tug boat as part of his former career with a prominent marine contractor in Connecticut.  With deep family roots in Maine, Michael was eager to return and found Hurricane Island’s mission and intentional community very enticing. After a few months as a captain he joined the year-round staff as Waterfront and Fleet Manager.  His vast skills in marine construction are an invaluable asset to the Island Operations team.

As an avid skier, ice climber, and backpacker, Michael is equally happy about winters in Maine and summers on the island.
