Directions
Our small gray office building is nestled in the working waterfront of Journey's End Marina in Rockland, Maine. Some of our programs depart from our office and some depart from the Rockland Ferry Terminal.
By car…
Our office address is 19 Commercial Street, in Rockland, Maine. You may also type Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership into your GPS.
Parking Instructions: Unfortunately we have no parking space available here at our office, and we ask participants to look into other options. There are spots within walking distance for parking during the day (see map below). For long-term parking, please make a plan before arriving for your program. There is (paid) long-term parking available at Journey's End Marina and the Rockland Ferry Terminal (on a first come, first served basis). Both are also within walking distance from our office.

From points east-northeast (Bangor, Ellsworth, Belfast): Coastal Route 1 is the best bet.
From points northwest (Augusta, Waterville): Route 17 comes directly into the northern side of the city of Rockland; turn right onto Rte. 1 southbound to get to the office.
From the south (Portland, Brunswick/Bath): Coastal Route 1 comes right into Rockland. (Do NOT take the Route 90 turnoff in Warren, stay on Route 1 through Thomaston to Rockland.) Proceed straight through the Main Street signal.
By bus…
Concord Coachlines is the public bus service which serves our area. The Northbound Maine Coastal Route goes from Logan Airport in Boston (departing 11:35 am) to the Rockland Ferry Terminal (arriving 4:10 pm), stopping in Portland, Maine, and other coastal Maine cities along the route. The Rockland Ferry Terminal is walking distance from our office which you can search for by typing in Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership into your GPS.
By plane…
The closest airport to our office is the Owls Head or Knox County Regional Airport which is about 10-15 minute car ride from our office. Local taxi services may assist you in your ride from the airport. A very reliable taxi service is Schooner Bay Taxi. FYI: there is no reliable Uber or Lyft service around here!
Lodging:
There are many lodging options for participants if they need a place to stay on either end of their Hurricane journey. We recommend using the Penobscot Bay Chamber of Commerce website as a resource to find local lodging.
