DAVID HARMAN

David Harman is a career educator (teacher, coach, advisor, administrator), having worked at six different independent schools. He retired after sixteen years from heading Poly Prep Country Day School in Brooklyn, NY in 2016, and moved year around to their home on the Damariscotta River in Newcastle, Maine in July 2016. David is semi-retired and continues to work as an educational consultant, particularly with a company in China building new schools that model the best of both the Chinese educational system and US independent schools. He remains active in non-profit board and volunteer work.

David attended Outward Bound H-5 session a few years ago in the summer of 1966 with classmate and teammate from Middlesex School, Alec Knowles. David visited the island a couple of times over the years sailing and cruising with Kristin and his late parents. David heeded Alec’s siren call to become involved in the then very recent reincarnation of the island when he and Kristin settled in Maine full-time three years ago. David’s wife, Kristin, who grew up in nearby Woolwich and graduated from Morse High School in Bath, is currently the Executive Director of Enrollment at Hyde School, also in Bath. They enjoy gardening, tennis, walking, film, and theatre, their dog Pilot, and their 22’ wooden catboat Manana.

David is in his second term on the board and presently is Chair of the Development Committee, board representative on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Working Group, and is a member of the Executive Committee. He served on the search committee for the new executive director two years ago.
