Full Description

Throughout this week-long summer science program for rising 9th-12th graders, students will embrace the beauty of Hurricane Island's breathtaking coastline, beaches, and trails while learning how to effectively communicate marine science through artwork. Students will explore the marine ecosystem and create 2D and 3D art pieces to bring awareness to the beauty of the weird and microscopic, the functions of the slimy and gelatinous, and the stories behind the detailed shells we love to gather along the beaches. Each day the students will focus on a different trophic level within the marine ecosystem - how they function, how they are connected, and how we are connected to them. The focus of this program is to learn about the marine ecosystem and the many ways that we are connected to the ocean, while creating beautiful, communicative, and impactful artwork.
