Wilderness First Responder

April 20th - 25th, 2026

The Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course provides essential training in wilderness medicine, leadership, and critical thinking for professionals, leaders, and outdoor adventurers in outdoor, low-resource, and remote environments.

Wilderness First Responder Recertification

May 3rd - 6th, 2026

The Wilderness First Responder Recertification course is designed to recertify eligible Wilderness First Responders and current Wilderness EMS Upgrade/Wilderness EMT graduates. Students will review essential skills, wilderness protocols, and updates in wilderness medicine. Students are expected to perform at the WFR level on day 1.

Leadership and Conflict Transformation for Climate Action

May 29th - 31st, 2026

Join us for this exciting weekend to acquire new skills, enhance your leadership capacity, and build a network of support for climate action in your community.  Participants will explore the premises and practices of the Conflict Transformation approach and will have the opportunity to reflect on their personal and professional experience to identify the forces that drive conflict transformation, especially in the context of bringing about change through climate action.

Archaeology

August 16th - 22nd, 2026

In this course, students will become familiar with the archaeological history of granite production and Wabanaki presence at Hurricane Island as well as the wider coastal environment. We will continue to survey and map the island’s many remaining anthropogenic features, with a particular emphasis upon botanical remains and questions pertaining to public health. We will also conduct excavation work on selected locations in order to determine the extent of Wabanaki presence and to gain a more nuanced understanding of the lives and habits of the significant granite working population which peaked in the late 1800’s.

Wild Mushroom Foraging

September 11th - 13th, 2026

Join Greg Marley, a Maine-based mushroom expert and author, for a weekend of mycorrhizal magic. The weekend will be all about wild mushrooms: a mix of field excursions and discussions to increase skills for learning your mushrooms, as well as cooking opportunities. Come prepared to enjoy the beauty of a rugged Maine island and to experience outdoor learning.
