Help Support Our Efforts

The Hurricane Island Foundation was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 2009 and is a publicly supported 501[c](3). Your contribution is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

There are many ways to support the Hurricane Island Foundation and The Center for Science and Leadership. If you have a school that you think may be a good fit for a program on Hurricane, or know of an interested student, scientist, or teacher, these connections are so important to helping us build up the Hurricane community. Do you have gently used field equipment, field guides, or a spare pair of binoculars? Want to help us by purchasing an item on our wish list? Do you have a whaler you would like to donate? All of these contributions will help us make Hurricane Island an incredible resource for students, teachers, and scientists in Maine and beyond! Contact us if you have ideas!

The Barney Hallowell Scholarship Fund

IMG_6303.JPG

In honor of Barney Hallowell’s service to Hurricane Island over the past five years, the Board of Directors has established the Barney Hallowell Scholarship Fund. This fund is already seeded with more than $30,000 in gifts that will provide more students with the opportunity to participate in programs on Hurricane Island and in our year-round initiatives. Please join us with a gift today to honor Barney and to give a boy or girl the chance to have an extraordinary experience at the Hurricane Island Center for Science & Leadership!

Join our Hurricane Society

We’re excited to announce the creation of the Hurricane Society, a giving club within the Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership. As we’ve grown a wonderful network of supporters who are giving generously, year after year, we want to specifically acknowledge this group of individuals in a tangible, celebratory way.

I investigated whether rockweed survives better in areas of high or low wave exposure. I created my own experiment, collected, data, and the statistics on it. It was a great learning experience!
