The Wilderness First Responder Recertification course is designed to recertify eligible Wilderness First Responders and current Wilderness EMS Upgrade/Wilderness EMT graduates. Students will review essential skills, wilderness protocols, and updates in wilderness medicine. This course option requires students to review their textbooks and field guides as preparation followed by three days of in-person instruction.  Students are expected to perform at the WFR level on day 1. Students will review essential skills, wilderness protocols, and updates in wilderness medicine. The specific content covered in the class will vary based on the participants.  

This cost includes transportation between Rockland and Hurricane Island, all food and housing, all programming, and all facilities use.

$600/adult for the class. This cost includes transportation between Rockland and Hurricane Island, all food and housing, all programming, and all facilities use. Please plan to arrive at the Rockland Ferry Terminal by 2:15 pm to allow enough time to check in with us to get your (provided) ferry tickets and be prepared to board the ferry on time. Outline

This course is a recertification for the Wilderness First Responder course. Wilderness First Responder (WFR) is the definitive course in medical training for outdoor educators, guides, SAR team members, and others who work or play in remote areas. The curriculum includes all of the essential principles and skills required to assess and manage medical problems in isolated and extreme environments. This course model requires 30+ hours of pre-course work including textbook learning and completion of a study guide and online exam followed by 45+ hours of in-person learning over the course of five days. Students must register four to six weeks prior to the course to ensure adequate time for pre-course work. Internet is required to register, complete pre-course paperwork, and take the online pre-course exam. No previous medical training is required. Students must be 18 years or older to participate in the course.
