There is nothing I enjoy more than plopping down on a rock after a hike, and opening up my handy-dandy Write-In-The-Rain notebook to find the stories created along the way. As a Maine native, being surrounded by coastline for the summer will surely make me feel right at home. Sea kayaking, slow food cooking, and slam poetry are a few of my favorite hobbies. While studying abroad in India, I worked at a community garden for those in poverty, which helped me to discover my true passion. I made the decision to transfer to Unity College’s Environmental Writing and Media Studies program. My studies’ focal point is on issues in food agriculture, in attempt to bring to light sustainable community food systems through creative writing and social media. It will be a beautiful experience to capture participants growing through new challenges, and learning new skills. Hurricane Island sets a fabulous example of off the grid community living. I cannot wait to live amongst such an inspiring group of like-minded individuals out in the fresh ocean breeze.
