Maine Island Science and Leadership Exploration (ISLE)

This ten-day Maine Island Science and Leadership Exploration (ISLE) program is aimed at serving high school students (ages 14-18) during the summer of 2014. This hands-on program invites students to immerse themselves in the natural world as they observe and explore the rich biological community of Hurricane Island in Penobscot Bay, Maine.

Traversing the coastline, combing the beaches, and hiking the island trails provide opportunities for these intrepid students to think, observe, and ask the questions of a trained naturalist.  We encourage students to document their findings through field journaling and drawing, instilling the confidence to share and present their insights, observations, and discoveries and fostering presentation skills and methods to communicate science.
