Islesboro High School Environmental Science

Students will come out to Hurricane to learn more about phenology, or the timing of seasonal change in the landscape. After learning how to monitor the phenology sites on Hurricane, and how to add these results to the USA National Phenology Network citizen science database, Nature's Notebook, educators from Hurricane Island will help students create their own phenology monitoring site on Islesboro! With sustained careful observations, students will eventually be able to see patterns or changes in the timing of when trees flower, have berries, and drop leaves relative to other sites in Maine and around the US.
